Farmers, Students Win Competitions and Prizes at 2016 Empire Farm Days

Seneca Falls, NY – Empire Farm Days has announced the winners of its 2016 competitions and prize drawings and is encouraging people to mark their calendars with the August 8, 9 and10 dates for the 2017 event that is the largest outdoor agricultural show in the Northeastern U.S. The show is held at Rodman Lott and Son Farms in Seneca

Falls in the Finger Lakes region of New York State.

Wyoming County Dairy Farmer Wins Empire Farm Days Kubota RTV400
Wyoming County dairy farmer David Boxler of Varysburg, NY, recently received the Kubota RTV 400 sponsored by Kubota and Empire Farm Days. Boxler says he will use the utility vehicle to manage his 2,100 cow dairy herd and more than 5,000 acres of crops. The new RTV 400 is made possible by Empire Farm Days in partnership with
Kubota and Alexander Farm Equipment, Alexander, NY.

Randolph Students Earn New York State FFA Welding Contest Honors
The 2016 New York State FFA Welding Contest held at Empire Farm Days was
organized by Johanna Fox-Bossard, agriculture teacher and FFA advisor at Hamilton
Central School and Morrisville State College Professor Fred Bach, and sponsored by
Haun Welding, Briggs and Stratton Power Products of Munnsville, and Ferris Industries.
The top three 2016 NYS FFA Welding Contest individual winners, receiving Morrisville

State College scholarships, are:

  • Noah Persson, Randolph Central School
  • Justin Rodda, Otselic Valley Central School
  • Derek Pingrey, Pioneer Central School.

High team honors went to Noah Persson and Tyler Liskow of Randolph Central School.

WNY Students Win New York State FFA/4-H Tractor Safety Contests
New York State FFA Tractor Safety Contest Coordinator Jon Clayson of Pioneer Central School has announced the 2016 winners of the Empire Farm Days event. They are:

  • Junior Division for 14-16 year olds: Robert Armison, Cuba-Rushford Central School
  • Senior Division for 16-18 year olds: Justin Lapham, Jasper-Troupsburg Central School.

The contest sponsors included Case International, John Deere, Kubota, H and S Farm Equipment, New Holland, the New York Center for Agricultural Medicine and Health, Java Farm Supply, Lamb and Webster, and the New York FFA Foundation.

Tompkins County Student Wins 2016 Empire State Potato Growers Scholarship
Cassandra Proctor of Trumansburg, NY, was recognized as the 2016 Empire State Potato Growers Scholarship winner at the Agricultural Leader Luncheon sponsored by Farm Credit East at Empire Farm Days. The scholarship provides $500 per academic year for up to four consecutive years of agricultural education at a college in New York State.
Cassandra is pursuing a plant sciences degree at Cornell University.

Suffolk County Farm Named 2016 NYS Agricultural Environmental Management Award Winner
Wickham’s Fruit Farm in Cutchogue, Suffolk County, NY, received the 2016 New York State Agricultural Environmental Management Award co-sponsored by the Empire State Potato Growers, New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, and American Agriculturist magazine.
